What your tutor sees

It depends on the link. A link made for you or your class (a tracked link) reports your reading to your tutor. A plain link reports nothing.

  1. Open the story.
  2. Look at the top of the page. A tracked link shows this notice with Continue and Don’t share buttons, and the story waits until you choose one: “Your tutor will see when you open this story, how long you read, whether you finish it, and which words you look up. If you choose Don’t share, they will see only that you opened the link and chose not to share.”
  3. A tracked link also says who it was made for above the story, for example “Made for Kenji”. It shows your first name only (a class’s whole name). If it isn’t your name, you were sent someone else’s link: tell your tutor.
  4. No notice means nothing about your reading goes to your tutor.
This notice means your tutor will see your reading on this link if you choose Continue. With no notice, nothing is reported.

A tracked link tells your tutor:

  • When you open the story, and how many times.
  • Whether you finish it, which means reaching the end of the story.
  • How long you read, in total and in each Layout: Guided, Assisted, and Solo.
  • Which words you look up, how many times, and where in the story.

That’s all. There’s no score or grade, and nothing is locked. Your tutor can use this to choose what you read next.

Example

Priya opens “Антон в кафе” from her tutor’s link, reads for about nine minutes, mostly in Assisted, and looks up “очень”, “День”, and “капает”. She closes it before the end. Her tutor sees that she opened it but didn’t finish, her time in each layout, and those words.

What your tutor never sees

  • Your Stichos account or your email, even if you’re signed in.
  • Your Library or your Word Bank, even if you save the story and your words there. A story from a link you opened while signed in is added to your own Library under From your tutor, and your tutor isn’t told.
  • Anything on a plain link.

Choose Continue or Don’t share

  1. Read the notice, then choose Continue or Don’t share. The story shows once you choose.
  2. Continue starts your reading being reported. Until you choose, nothing is reported. The notice stays hidden for that link in this browser; on another browser or device, or if the wording changes, it shows again.
  3. Don’t share shows the story and reports nothing about your reading. Your tutor sees only that you opened the link and chose not to share, so they know the link works. A line above the story says you’re not sharing, with Share after all if you change your mind; that starts your reading being reported from then on, not what you’ve already read. The next time you open the link, it asks again.

Every link, tracked or plain, shows a line under the story: “By reading, you confirm you’re 18 or older and agree to the Terms.” Nothing is stored about that line.

Is my reading on a class link counted separately?

No. A tracked link for a whole class is one link that everyone in the class uses. Your tutor sees the class’s reading on that link together.

How long does my tutor keep this?

Your tutor keeps your reading until they delete you (or your class) as a student, delete the link or the story, or delete their own account.

Does reading the story somewhere else count?

No. Only reading on the tracked link itself is reported. If you save the story and read it from your own Library, that reading isn’t reported to your tutor.
