Edit lines and publish

Every story you make in Educator Studio starts as a draft that only you can see. Fix any line, the title, or a translation with Edit, then choose Publish. Only published stories can have links, so students never see a draft.

Editing and publishing need the Educator Studio plan.

Edit a line, the title, or a translation

  1. Open the story from Stories. It opens in the middle of the page.
  2. Choose Edit in the bar under the reader toolbar. The story turns into Edit story: the Title and Title translation at the top, then each line in a box with its translation under it.
  3. Change what you need. When you change a line, Stichos translates it again when you save. To use your own translation, type it in the box under the line.
  4. To take a line out, choose Delete line next to it. Restore brings it back. You can’t add new lines.
  5. Choose Save changes. It stays at the bottom of the screen while you scroll a long story, so you don’t have to scroll to the end to find it. Cancel throws your changes away.

Stichos checks new text as it checks topics. If it can’t be used, you see “That text can’t be used in a shared story.” and nothing is saved.

Edit any line, the title, or a translation, then choose Save changes.

Example

In her draft “День рождения Виолы”, Elena swaps a word her A1 class hasn’t met for a simpler one and chooses Save changes. Stichos translates the new line for her.

Write your own meaning for a key word

At the bottom of Edit story, Custom gloss notes (optional) has a box for each key word. A note replaces the dictionary meaning students see when they choose that word. For a story you’ve just made, a box starts with the meaning you picked for that key word, if you picked one.

Publish a story

  1. Read the draft. The bar says Draft · not shared yet.
  2. Choose Publish. The bar now says Published, with the date, and adds Share link. See Share a link.

After you publish, Stichos may ask “How was this story?”. See Flag a line for us.

Edit a story you already published

A published story’s text never changes. While you edit a published story, a note says: “Students keep seeing the published version until you publish this one.” When you save, Stichos makes a new draft.

In Stories, the story shows its newest version. A line such as 1 older version folds the earlier ones; choose Open next to one to read it.

When you publish the new version, and an older one has links, Stichos asks Move your links to this version?

  1. Every link is ticked: Anyone (plain link), or the name of a student or class. Untick the ones that should stay on the old version.
  2. Choose Move selected, or Keep on the old version to move none.

If you close the box instead, nothing is published.

After you publish an edit, choose which links move to the new version.

Example

Elena fixed a line in “Матильда и погода” after sending links to Noah, Priya, and her Tuesday group, plus a plain link. She publishes the new version and chooses Move selected, so all four links show the corrected story.

Check what grammar landed

Right after you generate, a small line above the title shows what Stichos checked, for example “Checked for A1 · 2 of 2 key words · Grammar in this story (Past: Прошедшее время ×6).” The number after each tense is how many times the story uses it. The Grammar part shows only when you required or banned a tense or picked a construction under Grammar.

  • If something didn’t land, the line adds “some key words or grammar didn’t fit”. Choose the line to see what: key words that didn’t fit, Not landed (required tenses or constructions missing), or Still used (banned tenses). Fix it with Edit in the bar, or generate again.
  • “Grammar: not checked this time.” means Stichos couldn’t check the grammar for this story.

The key words and grammar parts belong to the story you just made: they go away when you open another story. A story you’ve edited shows no “Checked for” line, since you wrote some of its text.

The line above the title shows what Stichos checked; choose it to see what didn’t land.
Why can’t I edit or save?
  • Edit needs an active Educator Studio plan and a confirmed email. Without a confirmed email, Edit asks you to confirm it first.
  • There’s a daily limit on saved edits: “You’ve reached today’s edit limit. Try again tomorrow.”
  • “This story changed somewhere else.” means it was changed in another tab, for example. Stichos loads the newest version: make your changes again.
  • Some older stories need you to type the translation for any line you change.
