Units, tags, and lesson order
Units group your stories in the order you teach them, lesson order is the order of the stories inside a unit, and tags are labels that help you find stories. You manage all three in the Stories card on the left of Educator Studio.
Making and changing units, tags, and lesson order needs the Educator Studio plan. If your plan ends, you can still see your stories and delete what you made.
Make a unit
- In Stories, choose New unit (the folder icon at the top of the card).
- Type the Unit name and choose Create.
A unit holds stories in one language: the language you’re viewing (its tab, if you teach more than one). New units go at the end of the list. Each unit’s name must be new in that language (capital letters don’t count), or Stichos says “You already have a unit with this name in this language.”
You can also make a unit from the form (Unit, then New unit…) or from a story’s ⋯ menu (Move to unit, then New unit…).
Put a story in a unit
- New stories: opening a unit in the Stories or Words card makes it the Unit on the form, so new stories are filed there. If you teach more than one language, choosing a language tab in the card does the same for the unit open on that tab, and the form’s story language follows. You can change Unit on the form at any time, or choose Work in this unit in a unit’s ⋯ menu. That unit shows a small mark, New stories are filed here. See The form, option by option.
- A story you already have: open its ⋯ menu, choose Move to unit, and pick a unit or Not in a unit. Or drag the story by its handle (the dotted grip at its left) onto another unit’s name. The unit you drag from stays open, so you can drag several stories one after another.
A story you file goes to the end of that unit. Every version of the story moves with it.
Change the lesson order
- Make sure the sort is Lesson order (the sort button at the right of the search box), and clear any search or tag filter.
- Point to a story. Its handle shows at the left.
- Drag the handle up or down. Or tab to the handle and use the up and down arrow keys, or choose Move up or Move down in the story’s ⋯ menu.
While a search or tag filter is on, the card says “Lesson order can’t change while a search or tag filter hides stories. Clear it to reorder.”
Reorder, rename, or delete a unit
Each unit has a ⋯ menu next to its name, with Work in this unit, Move up, Move down, Rename, and Delete. You can also drag a unit by its handle. The order of your units is your course’s roadmap.
Delete asks first: “Delete the unit “…”? Its stories and words stay, under Not in a unit.” Choose Delete unit to go ahead.
Units are shared with the Words card, so a change here shows there too.
Example
Elena teaches Russian. Her units run “Unit 1: First words”, “Unit 2: Out and about”, “Unit 3: Food and drink”, and “Unit 4: Home and family”. One more unit, “Students”, holds one-off stories she made for single students.
Tag a story
Tags are short labels, such as “homework” or a student’s name, that students never see.
- Open the story’s ⋯ menu and choose Tags.
- Type a tag and press Enter or a comma. Stichos suggests tags you’ve used before. To remove one, choose the × on it.
- Choose Done.
A story can have up to 10 tags. Tags belong to every version of the story.
Find a story by tag or title
- Choose a tag on any story to show only stories with that tag. A Tagged label shows at the top; choose its × to clear it.
- Type in Search to find stories by title or tag.
- The sort button orders stories by Lesson order, Newest first, Oldest first, Title (A–Z), or Level.
Archive a story you don’t use any more
- Open the story’s ⋯ menu and choose Archive.
- The story leaves the list. To see it, turn on Show archived at the bottom of the card; Restore in its ⋯ menu brings it back.
An archived story keeps its unit, its tags, and its links, so students can still open it.
What’s the difference between Archive and Delete?
Archive only hides the story from your list. Delete removes the story for good: “Its share links stop working. This can’t be undone.” If students read it on a link made for them, what they read is deleted from your Dashboard too. For a story with older versions, Delete removes only the newest one.
What do Draft, Published, and Shared mean under a story?
Draft is not published yet. Published can have a link. Shared has a plain link (the one for anyone) that is on. See Share a link.
