Sign-in methods
You can sign in to Stichos with your email and password, or with Google, Microsoft, or Apple. Settings › Account › Sign-in methods lists the ways that work for your account. Your email, password, and Sign out everywhere are on the same tab.
See how you sign in
- Open the account menu (your avatar at the top of the app) and choose Settings.
- Choose the Account tab.
- Under Sign-in methods, you see Email and password if your account has a password, then Google, Microsoft, or Apple for each one linked to it.
Sign in with Google, Microsoft, or Apple
- Choose Sign in at the top of the page (on a phone inside the app, the person icon). The Sign in or sign up box opens.
- Under or continue with, below the email form, choose Google, Apple, or Microsoft.
- Sign in on their page. You come back to Stichos signed in.
If you don’t have a Stichos account yet, Stichos says so and asks you to tick the box (18 or older, and you agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy) to create one. See Getting started as a learner.
Add Google, Microsoft, or Apple to your account
There’s no “add” button. Instead:
- Sign out.
- Choose Sign in (on a phone inside the app, the person icon), then the provider you want under or continue with.
- Sign in there with the same email address as your Stichos account.
When the provider confirms that address is yours, Stichos links it to your account and signs you in. It then shows under Sign-in methods, and your password keeps working too. If you never confirmed your email, signing in this way confirms it and removes the old password: use Forgot password? to set one.
Example
Sarah signed up with her email and a password. Her Stichos email is also her Google account. She chooses Continue with Google once, and from then on she can sign in either way.
Stichos says “An account already uses this email”
The provider didn’t confirm the address, so Stichos won’t link it. This can happen with some work or school Microsoft accounts. Sign in with your email and password instead, or choose Forgot password? to set a new one.
I used Apple’s Hide My Email
Then Apple gives Stichos a private relay address, not your real one, so it won’t match your existing account. Sign in with your email and password instead.
Remove Google, Microsoft, or Apple
You can remove a linked sign-in while another way in is left: your password, or another linked provider.
- In Settings › Account, under Sign-in methods, choose Remove next to the provider.
- Stichos asks “Remove Google sign-in?” and says every other device will be signed out. If your account has a password, type it under Your password. If two-factor sign-in is on, Confirm it’s you asks for a code first. With neither, Stichos asks you to sign in again first when your last sign-in was more than 10 minutes ago.
- Choose Remove. “Google sign-in removed.” confirms it, and Stichos emails you that it was removed.
There’s no Remove on your only way in. To remove it anyway, set a password first (see below).
Removing Apple here doesn’t remove Stichos from your Apple ID: Apple keeps listing it until you remove it there too.
Set a password if you only use Google, Microsoft, or Apple
Without a password, you can’t change your email. You also need a password to download your data or delete your account, unless you’ve turned on two-factor sign-in.
- In Settings › Account, find Password.
- Choose Set a password. Stichos emails you a link.
- Open the link and choose your password.
Change your password
- In Settings › Account, under Password, choose Change password.
- Fill in Current password, New password, and Confirm new password. A new password needs at least 8 characters.
- Choose Change password. Stichos asks: “Change your password? Every other device will be signed out, and we’ll email you that it changed.”
- Choose Change password again.
Forgot it? On the sign-in screen, choose Forgot password?, type your email, and choose Send reset link. The link works for one hour.
Change your email
- In Settings › Account, next to Email, choose Change email.
- Type your New email and your Current password, then choose Send link.
- Open the link from the new inbox within 24 hours.
Your email stays the same until you open the link. To stop the change, choose Cancel the change.
Sign out everywhere
Sign out everywhere signs you out on every device and browser, this one included. Use it after signing in on a shared computer, or if you think someone else knows your password.
- In Settings › Account, choose Sign out everywhere.
- Choose Sign out everywhere again to confirm.
How long do I stay signed in?
For 30 days, renewed whenever you use Stichos. Even if you keep using it, you sign in again at least once every 90 days.
Can I remove Google, Microsoft, or Apple from my account?
Yes, in Settings › Account: see Remove Google, Microsoft, or Apple. Turning off Sign in with Apple in your Apple Account settings also removes the Apple link and signs you out. If you can’t sign in to remove one, write to info@stichos.com from your account’s email. If you think someone else can sign in, choose Sign out everywhere, change your password, and write to us too.
