Export a PDF or MP3

You can download any story you make in Educator Studio as a PDF to print, an EPUB for e-readers, or, with Premium Audio, an MP3. All three are in the Export menu of the reader toolbar, above the story.

PDF and EPUB come with the Educator Studio plan. The MP3 also needs the Premium Audio add-on.

Export a story as a PDF

  1. Open the story from Stories.
  2. Set the Layout the way you want it on paper. In Guided, the PDF has a translation under every line; in Solo, it’s the plain story.
  3. In the reader toolbar, choose Export (the download arrow), then Export as PDF.
  4. A spinner turns on the button while the PDF is made (Preparing PDF…), then it downloads.

A PDF needs a confirmed email address. Without one, Stichos says “Verify your email to export PDFs. Check your inbox for the link.” and opens your browser’s print dialog instead. A Verify your email box then asks for the 6-digit code from that email.

PDF, EPUB, and MP3 are all in the Export menu.

Example

Elena wants a paper copy of “На рынке” for her A0 class. She switches the preview to Solo, so the page has no translations, and chooses Export as PDF.

PDF options

Choose the small arrow beside Export as PDF to open the options. They are the same as in the learner reader, and they apply to a single story and to several stories in one PDF. Your choices are remembered in this browser.

  • Worksheet: adds name and date lines to the page, to hand a printed copy to a student who can write on it.
  • Key words: lists the story’s key words after the story. A word shows the meaning from your Words card when you have one for it in that language, and otherwise just the word. To have meanings on the list, add them in Words. It is ticked to start with.

Put several stories in one PDF

  1. In Stories, choose the checkbox button left of the search box (Select stories), then tick up to 10 stories. Choose the checkbox button again to leave Select.
  2. At the bottom of the card, choose Export PDF (with how many you ticked, for example Export PDF (3)). It says Preparing PDF… while the PDF is made, then it downloads.

Each story starts on its own page, in the Layout the preview is set to, with the PDF options you chose. Key words are underlined when Highlight key words is on in the preview, as on screen. “Up to 10 stories per PDF.” shows under the button while you select, and past 10 the button waits. A story saved before Stichos signed its stories can’t go in; a message says how many were left out.

Why did the print dialog open instead?

Sometimes Stichos opens your browser’s print dialog instead of downloading a PDF. Choose your printer there, or “Save as PDF”. This happens when:

  • Stichos can’t make the PDF right now, for example after many PDFs in a short time. A message says so.

Export a story as an EPUB

  1. Choose Export, then Export as EPUB.
  2. The EPUB file downloads. Open it in an e-reader app, or copy it to an e-reader.

The EPUB has the line translations only in Guided.

Download the story’s audio as an MP3

With the Premium Audio add-on, for a language that has Premium Audio voices:

  1. Open the story from Stories.
  2. Choose Export, then Export as audio (MP3).
  3. Under Speed, choose 1×, 0.75×, or 0.5×.
  4. Choose Download MP3. It downloads in the background, so you can keep working.

If the story hasn’t been read aloud yet, you see Voicing the story first…. That uses your audio minutes once. Your links then play the same recording, so students listening to it don’t use your minutes again. The MP3 is never added to your Library: Educator Studio stories stay in Educator Studio.

Without Premium Audio, Export as audio (MP3) has a Premium label, and choosing it shows what Premium Audio adds for your students.

Audio you got while paying stays yours. If your plan or the add-on ends, a story that was already read aloud still downloads as an MP3, without the Premium label. Stichos never voices anything new for it, and an edited story counts as new.

Can I play the story aloud in Educator Studio?

Yes, with Premium Audio. Use the play button in the reader toolbar, the same player your students and learners have. Before the story has been read aloud, it says Generate audio and about how many minutes that uses. Your links then play the same recording, so your students don’t use your minutes again. The line you are hearing is highlighted, and the controls at the bottom let you change the speed, loop a line, or jump to another.

Playing never adds the story to your Library. If you edit the story, the new text is read aloud again and uses minutes again. Without Premium Audio, the play button is gray and shows what the add-on adds. If a story was already read aloud while you had the add-on, you can still play it.

Can I put several stories in one PDF, or add worksheet lines?

Yes to both. For several stories, see Put several stories in one PDF. For worksheet lines and a key words list, see PDF options.

The Export button has a lock. Why?

Exporting needs a paid plan. Pointing to Export says Upgrade to export. See Plans and limits.
