Discover

Discover is a shelf of stories other learners made, in the language and level you’re reading. You find it in your Library, under the Discover tab. Reading a Discover story never uses up your stories, on any plan.

Read a Discover story

Plans: all, once you’re signed in

  1. Open your Library. See Library and Word Bank.
  2. Choose the Discover tab. It lists a few stories, with how many next to the section name.
  3. Choose a story to open it in the reader.

The story you opened leaves the list and goes into Recent, like a story you made. To keep it, choose the bookmark in the reader’s toolbar (Save this story to Library).

Discover lists stories other learners made at your level.

Example

Tom is learning Korean on Free. He has made his two stories for today, so he opens the Discover tab and reads a Korean A1 story from Discover. It doesn’t count toward his stories.

What is Discover, and which stories does it show?

  • The language and level on your Story Studio form. Change the Target language or Level there, and Discover follows.
  • Translations in your Interface language, the one in the account menu.
  • Nothing you already have. A story in your Saved or Recent never shows in Discover.
  • A few at a time, picked at random. Choose Show all (with how many) to see every story in the list.

How many Discover stories are there?

It depends on the language and level. Discover holds stories other learners made from Stichos’s own topics (Random and the topic list), checked the same way as yours. It grows as learners make stories, so some languages and levels have more than others.

When there’s nothing new for your language and level, Discover says “No new Discover stories for this language and level yet. Try another level, or make a story of your own.”

Do Discover stories use up my stories?

No. Opening and reading a Discover story never counts toward your daily or monthly stories, on any plan. When you’ve used up your stories, Keep reading under the reader offers Discover stories too. See Keep reading and Discover.

Can my stories join Discover?

Some can. A story you make from Random or a topic from the list can join Discover, for other learners to read. Stories from your own topic (Custom) or with key words always stay private.

To keep all your stories out of Discover:

  1. Open the account menu and choose Settings.
  2. On the Profile tab, switch off Share with other learners.

This only affects the stories you make from now on. With Premium Audio, the audio you make for those stories can also be replayed by others while the switch is on.

Who sees my name on a Discover story?

Nobody. Discover stories don’t show who made them.
