Plans and limits

Stichos has a Free plan and two paid plans: Learner Plus for learners on their own, and Educator Studio for tutors and teachers. Every plan gets the same stories, checked the same way. The plans differ in how much you can do, and in a few features such as your own topics, key words, and exports. Prices are on the Pricing page, in dollars, euros and pounds.

Which plan is right for me?

Free: to get started

• Make stories on Random or a topic from the topic list, at any level from A0 to B2.
• Read Discover stories, look up words, and switch the reader’s Layout.
• Keep words in your Word Bank and stories in your Library, up to the limits below.
• Read any story a tutor shares with you.

Learner Plus: for self-learners

Everything in Free, plus:

• More stories each day and each month.
• Stories on any topic you name.
• Your own key words: the words you want the story to use, with the meaning you pick.
• No limit on saved words or saved stories, and no daily count on word lookups.
• Print a story, or save it as a PDF or an EPUB for your e-reader.
• The Premium Audio add-on, if you want stories read aloud and to download them as MP3s.

Educator Studio: for tutors and teachers

Everything in Learner Plus, plus:

• The most stories each day and each month.
• Educator Studio, a workspace for lesson stories: units, word lists, lesson order, and grammar and tense choices on the form.
• Share links for as many students as you like, and tracked links for a student or class that show on your Dashboard when they open a story, finish it, and which words they look up.
• The Premium Audio add-on with more minutes. Students hear your stories read aloud on your links.

Example

Tom reads Korean stories from the topic list, so Free is enough. Sarah wants Croatian stories with words from her course book as key words, so she uses Learner Plus. Elena sends her Russian class links to her stories, so she uses Educator Studio.

• Discover stories don’t use up your monthly stories, on any plan.
• Daily limits reset at 00:00 UTC. Monthly limits start again on the same day each month.
• Dictionary searches are the words you look up to save: in the Word Bank or key words, or in Educator Studio’s Words.
• Discover is a shelf of stories other learners made from Stichos’s own topics, checked the same way as yours. How many it holds depends on your language and level, and it grows as learners make stories.
• Monthly and yearly billing give the same allowances.
• During a free trial, the Premium Audio add-on gives 10 minutes of new audio. Replaying audio you already have is free.
• A story at A0–A1 is usually under a minute of audio.
• Every plan has a daily fair-use safety limit on new stories, lookups and other AI features, set well above normal use. If an account reaches it, those features pause until 00:00 UTC; free trials have a lower one until the first payment.

See how much you’ve used

1. Open the account menu at the top of the app.
2. Look under Usage. It shows Stories today and Stories this month, and Audio this month if you have Premium Audio.

Looking up words

A word someone has already looked up in the same story is free and doesn’t count toward your daily lookups. Signed out, you can look up 30 new words a day; after that, a free account gives you more.

Start a free trial

A free trial lets you use Learner Plus or Educator Studio before you pay.

1. On Free, choose Upgrade at the top of the app, or in the account menu.
2. On the plan you want, choose the button that starts with Try free for.
3. Choose Monthly or Yearly, and turn on Premium Audio if you want it.
4. Next to Pay in, choose $, € or £. Euro and pound prices include VAT; dollar prices have sales tax added where it applies. Stripe shows the exact amount before you pay.
5. Choose Try free for again. Stripe, our payment provider, asks for a card. Due today shows what you pay now.

Try free starts a trial of Learner Plus or Educator Studio.

Cancel any time before the trial ends, and you aren’t charged. A trial is for your first plan, and each card can start one trial. If a plan starts without a trial (your card has had one), you can cancel within 14 days of the first payment for a full refund. See Plan & billing.

Can I change my plan later?

Yes. On Free, choose Upgrade. On a paid plan, open Plan & billing in the account menu to change or cancel it. See Plan & billing.

What happens to my words and stories if I go back to Free?

Your saved words and stories stay where they are. Free’s limits apply to what you add next: if you have more than Free allows, you can’t save more until you’re under the limit. Audio you got while paying stays yours to replay.
