Getting started as a tutor
Educator Studio needs the Educator Studio plan. Create an account, choose Educator Studio on the plan step (a free trial is there if it’s your first plan), and a short tour helps you make your first lesson story, free.
1. Create your account
- On stichos.com, choose Educators at the top of the page, then Open Educator Studio. Or choose Start reading on the home page. The Create your free account box opens.
- Enter your Email and a Password (at least 8 characters; the eye icon shows what you typed).
- Check the box “I’m 18 or older and agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.” (just above Create account), then choose Create account. Or, with the box checked, choose Google, Apple, or Microsoft under or continue with below the form.
- If Stichos shows Check your inbox, open the link in the email in the same browser, or type the 6-digit Code. You can’t sign in until your email is confirmed.
The same steps, with more detail, are in Getting started as a learner.
2. Answer the setup questions
- What should we call you? Your name, or Skip. Tick Email me product news for about one email a month; it starts unticked.
- Which language should Stichos use with you? Your own language: menus, translations, and word meanings use it. You choose your students’ translation language later, for each story.
- Which language are you learning? Pick the language you teach. You can change it for each story.
- How well do you know …? Pick the level you teach most. Each story has its own level, so this is only where the form starts.
- Read more, on your own terms. The plan step. See the next section.
Choose Continue after each step.
3. Choose Educator Studio
- On the Educator Studio card (“For tutors and teachers”), choose its button. If you can have a free trial, the button starts with Try free for; if not, it says Choose Educator Studio.
- Choose Monthly or Yearly under Billing. Turn on Premium Audio if you want your stories read aloud to students.
- Choose Try free for … or Subscribe. Stripe, our payment provider, asks for a card. Due today shows what you pay now.
- After checkout, Stichos brings you back and opens Educator Studio. If you see “Thanks, your payment went through. Your plan will show in a moment.”, wait a few seconds.
I chose Free by mistake. How do I get Educator Studio?
Choose Upgrade at the top of the app, or in the account menu, and pick Educator Studio. See Plans and limits.
4. Take the tour and make your first story
The first time you open Educator Studio, a card says Welcome to Educator Studio. Your first story here is on us: it doesn’t count against your stories.
- Choose Start. (Choose Skip tour to look around on your own.)
- The tour points to the form. Pick the story language, your students’ language, and a level.
- At Make your first story, choose Generate. Writing usually takes under a minute.
- The new story opens as a draft. Read it, use Edit to fix any line, and choose Publish. Only published stories can have links.
- The tour then shows how to copy a link for students (Copy link), make a link for one student or class, sort stories into units, and keep each unit’s Words.
Example
Elena teaches Russian to English speakers. On the tour she picks Russian, English, and A1, chooses Generate, fixes one line with Edit, and chooses Publish. Then she uses Copy link and pastes the link into an email to her class.
If the free story fails, is it used up?
No. If writing fails, the card says your free story wasn’t used. Try again, or choose Next to tour a story you already have.
Tip
You can replay the tour any time: open the account menu and choose Show me around, under Support. A replay offers the free story only if you haven’t used it yet.
