Archive or delete a student

Archive a student you’ve stopped teaching for now: their reading so far stays, and you can restore them. Delete a student to remove them for good, with their links and everything read on them.

Archiving and restoring need the Educator Studio plan. You can still delete a student after your plan ends.

Your plain links aren’t touched either way.

Deleting a student also takes their stories out of that student’s own Library, if they opened the link signed in, unless they saved a copy. Archiving doesn’t.

How do I archive a student?

  1. On your Dashboard, open the student or class.
  2. Choose Manage student, then Archive.
  3. Stichos asks “Archive this student?”: “They leave your list of students. Their links keep opening but stop recording what they read. You can restore them from Archived on your Dashboard.”
  4. Choose Archive. You go back to your Dashboard.

An archived student leaves All students, the news since you last looked, and the Add a link for… list when you share a story. Their links no longer show the notice that the tutor will see their reading, and nothing they read while archived is recorded. You can still open their page, with their trend, and reports from Archived.

Example

Noah takes a break from Russian over the summer. Elena archives him. His old links still open if he wants to reread, and his reading from the spring stays on his page under Archived.

Restore an archived student

  1. On your Dashboard, choose Archived to open the list.
  2. Choose Restore next to their name.

Or open their page from Archived, choose Manage student, then Restore. You stay on their page.

They’re back under All students and Add a link for…, and their links that are on record reading again. You can also restore someone when you add a student with the same name: choose the Restore … button that appears.

Delete a student

  1. On your Dashboard, open the student or class.
  2. Choose Manage student, then Delete.
  3. Stichos asks “Delete this student?”: “Their links stop working, and what they read on them is deleted. This can’t be undone.”
  4. Choose Delete student. You go back to your Dashboard.

To delete an archived student, open Archived and choose Delete student next to their name. The same “Delete this student?” question comes first.

If you might teach them again, archive them instead.

Delete one link, or a story

  • One link: on its link report, choose Delete link. What was read on that link is deleted; the student stays. See Reading a link report.
  • A story: in Educator Studio, when you delete a story your students read on tracked links, the question adds: “What students read on its links is deleted from your Dashboard too. To keep it, archive the story instead.” Archiving a story keeps its reading.

Reading is also deleted with your account.

My plan ended. What can I still do?

You can delete a student (Delete student on their page) and delete or turn off links. You can’t archive or restore students until you resubscribe. See Dashboard.

How long is my students’ reading kept?

Until you delete the student, the link, or the story, or your account. There’s no other time limit.
